Presented by M. Scott Hall, Senior Vice President, FirstPoint, Inc. and Chair of the National Association of Professional Background Screeners (NAPBS)

Should you be screening your employees or potential hires? In today's business climate, there is no hotter topic for legal action and ever-changing legislation than the world of background screening. Ban-the-Box, Authorization and Disclosure forms, EEOC Guidelines, Individualized assessment, Pre-adverse and Adverse action are just a few of the terms you need to understand to run a legal and compliant background screening program. What about after the employee is hired? Do my obligations end there in regards to background screening? Where and how does searching social media sites fit into my program if at all? Where is my background screening provider getting their data? Is it from a third-party privately managed database or is it coming from the local courthouse? What about screening volunteers? Is it the same as screening potential employees?

You have questions and this session will provide you answers to those questions.

Managing risk is important no matter the size of your business or the number of employees you have. Background screening is a tool for helping to manage that risk. We all want safe places to work and play. Come learn how to implement and manage a program that will not only keep you legally compliant but also give you peace of mind.

Teach Me Tuesdays are fast-paced seminars taught by experts within the community on the nuts and bolts of running your business. Topics include human resources, technology, finance, sales, customer service and more. Seminars are free to all employees of GMA member companies.
